What is a Virtual Domain?

A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.yourname.com) without having to purchase and install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet Web Address domain name (www.yourname.com) and by your own personal email address domain name (you@yourname.com)

To check to see if a domain name you are interested in is available, click here.

Can I access my domain address with or without the "WWW"?

Yes. You will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. As an example, just type (http://www.yourname.com) or (http://yourname.com), either is acceptable.

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No. You will need local internet access in order to upload and maintain your web site and to retrieve email addressed to your site. There are many dial-up service providers, some of which are even free. If you have questions about whether your current Internet access will be compatible with RealWebCo services, please contact us.

Do you handle the domain registration process?

Yes. We are happy to register your domain name for you at only $18.00 per year. A great savings over InterNIC, who charges $70.00 for two years then $35.00 per year thereafter.

Can I transfer an existing domain name to your servers?

Yes. Just be sure to specify you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with an IP address, which you can use as a temporary website address, so you can mirror your site on our server during the transfer. All email and web pages will still be accessed through your old site host until the transfer by InterNIC is complete. Once InterNIC announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site.

At the end of the 72 hours you should verify that you have been switched over then contact your old host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use the same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site with RealWebCo.com until they update their DNS.

As for the technical part of the transfer, we will submit a transfer request to InterNIC for you. Please DO NOT submit a registration or modification template to InterNIC as this will only delay the process.

If you did not register you existing name through InterNIC, you will need to contact whoever registered your domain name to accomplish the change. You will need some information from us (DNS entries) which should be set as follows:

(Primary) NS.HOST4U.NET (
(Secondary) NS2.HOST4U.NET (

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

If we register your new domain name, it should be ready in about 24 hours, but could take up to 48 hours to show up on the net. It can take up to 72 hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new sites location

How do I transfer files to my web site?

Files must be transferred to the web server via a File Transport Protocol (FTP) or Telnet. If you need FTP, Telnet, mail or other Internet software, visit Shareware.com. Shareware.com is a source for the latest Internet applications with ratings and reviews to help you decide which application is best suited to your needs. An FTP tutorial is also available for beginner users who may not be familiar with FTP. You should also visit our Customer Service Desk for our manual, tutorials and more on how to get started.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?

You have unlimited access via FTP and Telnet, 24 hours a day. You can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your convenience.

Can my account be used for commercial purposes?

Yes. You can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become the most efficient and cost effective means of making information available to the Internet community.

How long does it take to set up a new account?

New accounts are generally set within 24 hours of receiving your order. Once an accounts set up an activation notice will be sent to you by email. This notice will include your user ID, password and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new site immediately. If you do not receive this information within 24 hours, please let us know. There is a possibility you have entered your email address incorrectly on the order form and we can't contact you.

Domain account users will be given a temporary URL (IP address) to access their site prior to completion of either the domain registration or domain notification.

Can I subdivide my space and resell it?

Yes. We allow you to create subdirectories which you can use to offer friends or clients space as long as this space is used in accordance with our policies and guidelines. You can also request additional FTP accounts with limited access to a specific directory for a small additional charge. You can visit our Options And Add-Ons page for details.

Can I have additional domains pointing to the same main page as my primary domain?

Yes. For a one time setup fee of $35.00 for each additional domain, we can mirror your main web pages and mail system. This is a fantastic way to expand the marketing of your present business and double your exposure to the search engines!

Are third level domains available (anyname.mydomain.com)?

Yes. We can give a third level domain name such as yourname.realwebco.com or, if you have an existing domain with us, anyname.yourdomain.com. The packages are the same as the ones posted for normal domains. The advantage is that registration is not needed. This means you save by avoiding a registration fee. You can also park third level domain names, just like other domain names. (see above)

What is the difference between a POP account and an email alias?

The difference between a POP account and email alias, is that a POP account has its own login and password. An alias simply forwards email to somewhere else. Any alias not specifically told to forward elsewhere is automatically forwarded to the main POP account of yourdomain@yourdomain.com.

By default, your account is set up to receive all emails sent to anything@yourdomain.com in the main POP email box of your account which, by default, is yourdomain@yourdomain.com.You do not have to edit anything to accomplish this.

How can I change my domain name?

We're sorry, we can't change a domain name. The only way to do this would be to open a new account, move your files from the old account and then cancel your old account.

You can do this with no setup fee for the new account if you place, in the comments section of your order, "changing domain names from "yourcurrentdomain.com - do not charge setup". We'll make sure you're not charged for it.

Since we start billing on the 15 of each month, if you order your new account, copy your files over and cancel your old account before the 15, you won't be charged for two domains. If you think this will be a problem we suggest you wait until the 18 to order and give yourself almost a month to make the transfer.

If you order a new account and fail to cancel the old one, you will be charged for two accounts.

Your prices are all in U.S. dollars. How much is that in my currency?

All of our packages are priced in U.S. currency however, you can easily find the correct conversion for your currency by clicking on the web address below. Remember to use the back button on your browser to get back to us.
