What is a Virtual Domain?

A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.yourname.com) without having to purchase and install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet Web Address domain name (www.yourname.com) and by your own personal email address domain name (you@yourname.com)

To check to see if a domain name you are interested in is available, click here.

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No. You will need local internet access in order to upload and maintain your web site and to retrieve email addressed to your site. There are many dial-up service providers, some of which are even free. If you have questions about whether your current Internet access will be compatible with RealWebCo services, please contact us.

Do you handle the domain registration process?

Yes. We are happy to register your domain name for you at only $18.00 per year. A great savings over InterNIC, who charges $70.00 for two years then $35.00 per year thereafter.

Can I transfer an existing domain name to your servers?

Yes. Just be sure to specify you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with an IP address, which you can use as a temporary website address, so you can mirror your site on our server during the transfer. All email and web pages will still be accessed through your old site host until the transfer by InterNIC is complete. Once InterNIC announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site.

At the end of the 72 hours you should verify that you have been switched over then contact your old host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use the same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site with RealWebCo.com until they update their DNS.

As for the technical part of the transfer, we will submit a transfer request to InterNIC for you. Please DO NOT submit a registration or modification template to InterNIC as this will only delay the process.

If you did not register you existing name through InterNIC, you will need to contact whoever registered your domain name to accomplish the change. You will need some information from us (DNS entries) which should be set as follows:

(Primary) NS.HOST4U.NET (209.150.128.30)
(Secondary) NS2.HOST4U.NET (209.150.129.3)

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

If we register your new domain name, it should be ready in about 24 hours, but could take up to 48 hours to show up on the net. It can take up to 72 hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new sites location

Yes. We can give a third level domain name such as yourname.realwebco.com or, if you have an existing domain with us, anyname.yourdomain.com. What is the difference between a POP account and an email alias?

The difference between a POP account and email alias, is that a POP account has its own login and password. An alias simply forwards email to somewhere else. Any alias not specifically told to forward elsewhere is automatically forwarded to the main POP account of yourdomain@yourdomain.com.

By default, your account is set up to receive all emails sent to anything@yourdomain.com in the main POP email box of your account which, by default, is yourdomain@yourdomain.com.You do not have to edit anything to accomplish this.

How can I change my domain name?

We're sorry, we can't change a domain name. The only way to do this would be to open a new account, move your files from the old account and then cancel your old account.

You can do this with no setup fee for the new account if you place, in the comments section of your order, "changing domain names from "yourcurrentdomain.com - do not charge setup". We'll make sure you're not charged for it.

Since we start billing on the 15 of each month, if you order your new account, copy your files over and cancel your old account before the 15, you won't be charged for two domains. If you think this will be a problem we suggest you wait until the 18 to order and give yourself almost a month to make the transfer.

If you order a new account and fail to cancel the old one, you will be charged for two accounts.
